Anyone out there have a praying mantis. I have one female and just find them amazing. Mine lets me hand feed her. in fact she did a bad shed and had one of her front legs messed up and she could not catch anything so that is how i started hand feeding .
They are quite amazing and recognize you . I had company over and I was feeding her they spoke and she curled up in attack mode . They are so little or mine is only half grown and she was going to take my company on. They actually attack what scares them. She will not go to anyone else and just perchs on my hand eating.
I even went on the computor with her hanging off my right hand while I operated the mouse. She just ate her dinner and let me work on the computor.

These here in Texas are as long as your palm is wide.

Yep, we got them here and they like to bite..... My wife hopped in the car one night and something bit her on the neck. She jumped out of the car and had me look in the car to find out what it was that bit her. I took the flashlight and found a very large praying mantis on the seat behind where my wife was. Yes, they are cool looking but they can bite pretty good.

Hopefully you have the female, because when she gets a boyfriend, she will rip his head off during copulation...LOL Large ones have been known to attack frogs and hummingbirds... They do not actively hunt, but rather lie in wait, camoflaged, and aggresively attack anthing that happens by, usually biting the head off first, or the spine. I try not to disturb them in my garden, so they will stay around and eat bugs. As a martial artist, I have spent time watching their movements and speculating on how the first practitioner of PM Kung Fu developed it. There are many concepts, principles, movements of the mantis in many other martial art system as well, including my system. The cute and quiet little critter becomes quite the aggressor when challenged.

well hopefully she does not bite me. She did something really interesting last night i was quite surprized. When i took her out she crawled into my hand and layed down and then streached her front legs straight out and just layed there and let me pet her. I dont know what that was about but she has never done that before. Usally she likes to just stand and look around or eat whatever I give her. I dont think I will have to worry about her killing her mate we dont have them wild here. So she wont be finding any boys to kill. She is a house pet. Lol

I used to keep a Praying Mantis as a pet. I figured later on that it was a girl because after about 3 weeks of having her a male was found lurking outside the container. I was leery to let him in because I wasn't sure if the one outside was a girl looking to kill my buddy but I figured either way I would have a Praying Mantis afterwards. Well she had her way with him. LOL. Unfortunately she died before having any babies and I never had any after that. Never was sure what happened to her though. Though I must admit I never had the relationship you have with yours. I didn't like to hold her or pick her up because she would go into attack mode. Never got bit though. (my brother did) LOL. jimmy
