Hi I am new to this site so if I am in the wrong cat. with this request please forgive. I am thinking of trying to raise worms again. I tried once before without much success. What is the largest hardest worm that I could raise here in central Louisiana. We have a very hot humid climate. Some days the temp.is over 100 deg. I would like to raise them fish bait as well as composting. Also I need a creditable source Thanks

The best worms would of course be species indiginous to your region as they are acclimated to your climate.
A good start would be to go worm hunting in your area and collect at least a few dozen.
Then visit your local bait shop and purchase some from them to compare your wild harvested worms to.
If they appear to be the same species, combine them in a bin with bedding or trench bed and begin feeding maintenance feed and fattener feed as they multiply and are ready for expansion harvesting to increase your herd size.
By doing this , you will be able to minimize your initial investments while establishing your herd and learning how to best maintian the worms. Also if you make an error and lose the herd, you can restart your learning process at a much lower expense.
While you are educating yourself and establishing your herd, you can also do local market evaluations so that you can establish your first retail outlet as your herd grows and strengthens to allow excess harvesting in addition to expansion harvesting.
