Since a major concern of mine is use of recycled containers for the projects, here is my current undertaking.
Label removal from the green tint bottles I am building the student worm farms from.
With the labels being latex based and glued to the plastic bottle, the glue line is near impossible to cleanly remove easily.
I have considered making labels to stick over them as I have done on recycled margarine and butter containers before, but of course this increases project overhead.
As my goal is to have zero monetary overhead involved in this and minimal manpower hours and labor, I am trying to figure the best way to defuse the glue bond in as near a complete piece as possible.
At this time I have found filling and sealing the 2 liter bottle with hot water assists in the removal in a sink of hot water in about 3 minutes per bottle, but a few label remnants still remain at the glue bond.
Anyone have suggestions? Anyone want to take a stab at developing another process?
Whatever we come up with at zero overhead and using recycled materials assists in our endeavors to teach more the values of vermicomposting.
I'll keep posting here as to the results both positive and negative that I see. Hope some of you will do the same.

First stage of lab test is done. Since the labels are heat sealed to the bottles I filled one 2 /3 full and placed it in the freezer glue bond line down. After pulling it out , I was able to peel the label off leaving only three small patches of latex which were easily scrapped free using a chemical spatula. Now I am thinking of cutting patches from the throw away bottle top from the bottle used to Make the worm tea basin and fuse it over the two splits in the top used for a chamber lid with hot glue or a little methyl ethyl ketone varnish stripper. . Hot glue would be best as long as I use low temp sticks so I don't melt the bottles. Even with cleansing, the MEK may leave undesirable residues. I just figure tinted panels over the splits is neater than box tape One bottle delabeled, only 39 more to go then I get to spend 6 weeks helping a science teacher friend show 20 students how to raise worms before fishing season next year
