We don't own a car, but nevermind--my dumpster-diving spouse brought home one of those clamshell-type luggage carriers for the top of cars. (It's amazing and mysterious what the college students discard on their way out of town at the end of the semester.)
I don't know what he had in mind for it, but to me it looked exactly like a worm bin. I put a few more holes in the bottom for drainage, used blocks to elevate it a bit off the ground, moved some worms and bedding into it--perfect. It's the most hassle-free worm bin yet.

All of my bins are recycled containers ranging from totes to dead chest freezers and sewer pipe scraps.
