Howdy all. I have my worm bin built and it is without a cover. Originally I thought I read that one should just put a black sheet of plastic on the top. But it seems like wood would be better.

Try the plastic for awhile and if you don't like it switch to wood. With plastic the worms can feed right on top under the plastic.

I leave my bins open topped and use UV lights to keep the worms beneath the surface. As foodstuff is buried and water is administered with a drip system, the worms have no need to surface anyway.

Hey Jay, could you go into detail on how to set up a "drip system" for watering? Aren't you affraid of over or under watering?
