I have had both style of shredder here, strip shred and crosscut confetti shredders and have used both types of paper shred in my bins.
The strips I find best suited for the bedding mix however as they tend to keep the bedding less compacted.. A plus to this is that the strip shredders are generally less expensive also.
What is your preference of shredder ?

LOL, My method was by hand making strips. Maybe someday I will get an actual paper shredder but for now I such a small bin that its not needed. Though I should probably get one for personal information security. I have heard of some hororr stories with information being stolen from your own garbage bin. Just another reason people should get a worm bin so the worms will eat it up. Hmm hopefully the worms don't take the information to get my credit card numbers and then order take out. LOL Anyways I could see how the confetti style shredder would make the bedding more compact and less worm friendly. So I will be sure to go with the cheaper strip style. Jimmy

We have a crosscut shredder. Every day that the shreds spend in the compost bin, it gets harder and harder for information thieves to do their dirty work. <g>
We don't particularly use the shreds for bedding per se, but the shreds do end up in the compost. I think shreds work best as a cover material.
