Mary Appelhof, author of "Worms Eat My Garbage" taught many of us how to start home vermicompost systems. Although she passed away this past May, her publishing company has maintained her web site and it is chock full of valuable free information. New students and seasoned raisers seeking to refresh their knowledge can visit her site at www.wormwoman.com/acatalog/index.htmlAs always I will say the official policy here is that , The Worms Turn will not endorse any commercial vermiculture interest with preference over others. However I will enthusiastically encourage all beginners in raising worms and vermiculture to visit your local library and be sure to include "Worms Eat My Garbage" with other texts available for checkout. Then you decide which publications you may want to add to your book reference library. Even I never saw eye to eye with all of Mary's ideas on vermicompost. I like adding processed meat to my feed mixes and never have been overly worried of redmites. These were two of Mary's "no no" list but I tried a different direction that appealed to me. On one of our threads on WD she even responded to my explanation with her position but said she could see why I held my position and she still held to hers. I feel much respect for her in both her knowledge and how she treated we laypeople with respect also You newbie students please check her views out at the above link.
