Hi All,
Jay: nice new board. The threading on the other board was a little odd.
Just wanted to let everyone know that my bin temps are now back to normal. I think I was just putting too much food in there for the amount of worms I had. Also two thermometers have helped keep things under control monitoring-wise.
So the temps are like 80-90 degrees and there hasn't been a single runner yet found shrivelled up on the basement floor. All is quiet in the bin.
Hopefully they're making sweet n' nasty worm love and will be multiplying rapidly.
How do you guys keep those under-kitchen-sink bins? The tiny black flies are so numerous... two fly strips above my bins in the basement are almost completely full.
Thanks, Doug

Glad to hear the temperature leveled off. Bed turning and moisture are the best way to lower temps.

Hi DOug, You can stop most of the little black flies by freezing the food before you put it into the bin. Freezing kills the fly eggs and also helps break the food down so the worms can eat it sooner.

I have my bins in the shop and the lizards take care of the little flys and house flys but I have trouble with the black soldier flys in the summer, they are good composters but I am growing fishing worms. Ray
